Visit Elementary Schools

Our most popular outreach program is our annual visit to fourth grade classes in Davidson.  Each fall the educational team, consisting of DLC members and Davidson College students, helps children appreciate the importance of open space and become good stewards of the environment.

The mainstay of the program is a game called "Oh, Deer," which teaches children that good habitat is the key to wildlife survival, and that everything in the natural environment is interrelated.

After the game, we discuss the effects of diminished resources and brainstorm what we all can do to make a difference.  As a parting gift, each child is given a DLC gift.  In past years, we gave each child a DLC reusable bag. Currently, we give each child a DLC placemat featuring local wildlife.
