ARCHER PROPERTY

In 2008, the Davidson Lands Conservancy accepted a Conservation Easement on a lovely 20-acre property in southern Iredell county. The property is almost entirely woodland of mixed age with a small intermittent stream on the eastern edge. Besides the wonderful wildlife habitat and ecosystem provided by this natural area, there is a population estimated at 100 stems of pink lady slippers (Cypripedium acaule), a fairly uncommon orchid native to this area. The portion of the parcel where the orchids are found will continue to be actively managed to sustain the slippers. The pink lady slippers generally bloom once a year in the spring, and the DLC usually conducts member hikes to see them during that time.
