If the bees are feeling particularly calm\, you may even have the chance to get up close and personal with a bee frame! \nThis educational and engaging event is perfect for families with children aged 4 and above. Younger siblings are welcome as tag-alongs\, provided they are supervised by an adult. We recommend bringing a stroller to help keep them contained. \nPlease note that for safety reasons\, we ask that no dogs are brought along. Additionally\, wearing long pants and closed-toed shoes is mandatory for this outing. SUMMARY:NEW DATE - Earth Day next to the Davidson Town Green
DESCRIPTION:This year\, the Town of Davidson’s Earth Day Festival will include a native plant giveaway from Davidson Lands Conservancy\, a composting demonstration\, and a series of family-friendly\, hands-on\, and informative Learning Zones hosted by Davidson College students. These Learning Zones will include posters\, displays\, and fun activities related to nine different environmental topics: air\, biodiversity\, climate\, environmental justice\, energy\, food\, urbanization\, water\, and waste. Each Learning Zone will provide information about the history\, key dynamics\, and current status of these environmental domains\, and they will also include interactive components\, opportunities for deliberation about smart sustainability choices\, and ideas for learning more and taking action. Students in Dr. Graham Bullock’s US Environmental Politics and Policy course are developing and will run these Learning Zones during the Festival. Festival participants will be given Learning Passports that they can get stamped after they visit each Learning Zone; everyone who completes their passport will earn a prize and be eligible for a grand prize lottery drawing. \n  \nPress Release: DAVIDSON\, N.C. – Earth Day\, traditionally celebrated on April 22 since 1970\, is a global\ninitiative which seeks to raise awareness of environmental issues\, as well as empower individuals\nto make changes in their daily lives that positively impact the environment. SUMMARY:Magnificent Moths: A Nocturnal Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Moth Week by contributing to community science! We will venture into the dark and utilize citizen science tools to document as many species as we can. No experience needed at this family-friendly event. West Branch Nature Preserve; Meet in the parking area at 18444 Shearer Road; Davidson\, NC. Adult participation required if under 18. \nPrepare to be dazzled by the rich diversity of moths in our area with this evening activity\, perfect for adults and older children. Bring your flashlight\, bug repellent\, phone/camera\, and water bottle to West Branch Nature Preserve on July 30 at dusk. Local moth expert\, Lenny Lampel\, will guide us to different baited tarps that will attract many different Lepidopteran species we normally would not see\, due to their nocturnal habits.
