DESCRIPTION:Our original date in July got rained out so we have moved to Saturday\, August 17th.  Sign-up is open. Don’t miss your spot. \nTrees are true treasures to the ecosystem. They shade our land\, reducing temperature by 10 degrees; they clean our air and water; they benefit our mental health.  The Town of Davidson Arborist Andrew Sileo will lead us as we engage in Tree ID and a Treasure Hunt around the forest/outdoor classroom to see which team can find the most. Each team will share their knowledge of trees with the whole group. \nThis outing is for children with their families. The minimum age is 5 years old. We suggest long pants and possibly long sleeves because we will be in the woods and there is poison ivy in the area. No dogs or strollers\, please. \nPlan to arrive at 9:15 so we can begin at 9:30. \nRead our waivers HERE. DESCRIPTION:Join World of Wonder for a tour of our Davidson community garden. What are your favorite vegetables? Do you know how to grow them? Want to learn about how a community garden works? Please read our WAIVER before signing up. Pre Registration is required. \nThe Davidson Community Garden was established by Davidson United Methodist Church for the use and enjoyment of the entire town. It is not divided into parcels to be rented out to individuals. Rather\, in the spirit of Davidson as “one big family”\, it is one big garden tended by volunteers from every corner of town. The garden was requested by the Davidson Clergy Association\, who wanted an ongoing project that would bring together people of all different neighborhoods and groups. The community garden is envisioned as a gathering place to enjoy new friends\, learn new skills\, and grow healthy food. The garden is located at the corner of Potts St. and Catawba Ave. \nThis outing is for children with their families. The minimum age is 4 years old. Together\, we will embark on a fascinating journey along local trails to explore the captivating world of butterflies\, bees\, and bugs\, which play a crucial role as pollinators. Did you know that pollinators provide one out of every three bites of the food we consume? \nDuring this expedition\, we’ll dive into the butterfly life cycles\, check out the different species that make Davidson their home\, and figure out why they’re so important to our ecosystem. \nOur adventure will take place in the beautiful Abersham Park on the greenway\, and we will convene at the Lower Parking area. To help you find the location easily\, here’s a Google Maps link. \nThis outing is designed for families and their children\, with a minimum age requirement of 4 years old. We kindly request that you wear sturdy footwear with socks\, and considering the outdoor environment\, it’s advisable to dress in long sleeves and long pants. Please note that we will be exploring both trails and open fields\, so strollers and dogs are not permitted. Curious children and adults can enjoy the fall foliage while learning about nature’s preparations for winter\, special birds and plants of the forest\, and the interconnectedness of nature.  Joining the event will be Conservancy community partners\, including the Town of Davidson\, Carolina Raptor Center\, Mecklenberg County Parks and Rec\, NC Wildlife Federation\, Woodlawn’s STEAMfest\, Bartlett Tree Service\, Steven Hughes\, and World of Wonder. What kind of activities do the trees and wildlife engage in to prepare for the winter? \nJoin WOW and naturalist Theresa Morr as we explore the West Branch Nature Preserve preparing for winter.  This outing is for children and their families.  The minimum age is 4 years old.  We recommend long pants\, boots\, or sturdy walking shoes appropriate for muddy areas.
