SUMMARY:How does our garden grow: A WOW family outing
DESCRIPTION:Join World of Wonder for a tour of our Davidson community garden. What are your favorite vegetables? Do you know how to grow them? Want to learn about how a community garden works? Please read our WAIVER before signing up. Pre Registration is required. \nThe Davidson Community Garden was established by Davidson United Methodist Church for the use and enjoyment of the entire town. It is not divided into parcels to be rented out to individuals. Rather\, in the spirit of Davidson as “one big family”\, it is one big garden tended by volunteers from every corner of town. The garden was requested by the Davidson Clergy Association\, who wanted an ongoing project that would bring together people of all different neighborhoods and groups. The community garden is envisioned as a gathering place to enjoy new friends\, learn new skills\, and grow healthy food. The garden is located at the corner of Potts St. and Catawba Ave. \nThis outing is for children with their families. The minimum age is 4 years old. Wear closed-toe shoes or boots that don’t mind getting muddy. Please\, no dogs or strollers.

SUMMARY:Beaty Park Clean-Up
DESCRIPTION:Beaty is Davidson’s newest park and such an amazing natural resource but like the best of us\, could always use some love and attention.  We have recently repaired broken fence pieces\, remove significant swaths of invasive plant species and added tree identification signage.  The next project is to clean-up areas of the forest floor in places where a lot of small branches and limbs have fallen.  By doing this we will clear out the forest floor to support new growth and create wildlife habitats.  This project is great for all ages and fun way to spend a spring morning. We will kick-off the event with some donuts and will provide all needed equipment and gloves.  If interested\, follow this LINK and sign-up to help get Beaty looking great for summer.

SUMMARY:WOW+ April Event: Journey Through the Cosmos
DESCRIPTION:This is a WOW+ event meaning in addition to families\, anyone who would like to attend is welcome as the auditorium has 78 seats.  \nWe have made enormous leaps in our understanding of the Universe over the last 100 years. For example\, it has been discovered that our Milky Way is not the sole galaxy in the Universe. Astronomers found that all galaxies are moving away from us as the Universe expands at accelerating speeds. We now know that the large spiral galaxies all harbor supermassive black holes and we have developed the technology to image them. We have expanded astronomy from studying objects solely with light to learning about them through gravitational waves. The Universe that we know today is indeed very different from the one that our grandparents learned about. Which questions do we think we have answered\, and which ones do we not yet understand? Join us for a “Journey Though the Cosmos” as we explore some of these ideas and our place in the ever-growing Universe. Weather permitting\, please join us outside following the hour-long lecture and Q&A for stargazing. \nLecture 7:00 – 8:00 PM \nStargazing 8:00 – 9:00 PM\, weather permitting \nPlease read our waivers HERE . Once you have read our waiver\, click HERE to register.  By registering for this outing\, you are agreeing to its terms and conditions. The event is free\, but registration is required. Please indicate how many in your party will attend so we have an accurate seat count. If you are unable to attend\, update your signup so another family may participate. Thank you!
