DESCRIPTION:West Branch Nature Preserve: 18232 Shearer Rd\, Davidson \nMarch 4\, 2023 \n10:00 am till 11:30 \n  \nWith Spring right around the corner\, things are beginning to move and grow!  Join naturalist Rob Van Epps on a woods and wetland hike. Amphibians should be active\, and we will search for salamanders\, newts\, frogs\, and toads. Along the way\, we’ll look for early blooming wildflowers\, such as Bloodroot and Rue Anemone\, and anything else that catches our interest. \n  \nThis outing is for children with their families. The minimum age is 5 years old. Wear shoes or boots that you don’t mind getting muddy.  We will be on and off trails in a local wetland.  Please\, no dogs or strollers. \n  \nPlease read our waivers HERE . SUMMARY:Spring Wildflower Ephemerals Walk at Fisher Farm Park
DESCRIPTION:Join DLC and local wildflower expert\, Paula Gross\, on a walk to discover the surprises of early spring and possibly the rare beauty of spring ephemeral wildflowers. These plants are specially adapted to leaf and flower during a short window in the spring\, braving potential frost to complete their reproductive cycle before forest tree leaves emerge and block needed sunlight. Learn how to spot and identify these unique plants and explore the magic of early spring in the forest on Saturday\, March 18 from 10:00 am to 11:15 am. \nWe will meet at the parking lot at Fisher Farm Park\, located at 21215 Shearer Road\, Davidson\, NC 28036. Sturdy shoes and a water bottle are recommended. This outing is appropriate for adults and children 8+. \nPreregistration is required\, so sign up HERE. \nPaula Gross is the former associate director of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Botanical Gardens\, and currently teaches at The Green School in Davidson\, NC. She is the co-author of The Southeast Native Plant Primer and Bizarre Botanicals.
