SUMMARY:World of Wonder: Butterflies\, Bees\, and Bugs
DESCRIPTION:Butterflies\, Bees\, and Bugs  \nSaturday\, July 15th | 9:30am-11:00am \nAbersham Park \nJoin us for a nature expedition led by local naturalist and pollinator expert\, Rob Van Epps. Together\, we will embark on a fascinating journey along local trails to explore the captivating world of butterflies\, bees\, and bugs\, which play a crucial role as pollinators. Did you know that pollinators provide one out of every three bites of the food we consume? \nDuring this expedition\, we’ll dive into the butterfly life cycles\, check out the different species that make Davidson their home\, and figure out why they’re so important to our ecosystem. \nOur adventure will take place in the beautiful Abersham Park on the greenway\, and we will convene at the Lower Parking area. To help you find the location easily\, here’s a Google Maps link. \nThis outing is designed for families and their children\, with a minimum age requirement of 4 years old. We kindly request that you wear sturdy footwear with socks\, and considering the outdoor environment\, it’s advisable to dress in long sleeves and long pants. Please note that we will be exploring both trails and open fields\, so strollers and dogs are not permitted. Please also be aware that the maximum number of participants is 20. \nBefore joining us\, we kindly ask you to review and complete our waivers\, which can be found HERE. By registering for this outing\, you acknowledge and agree to the terms and conditions outlined in the waivers. SUMMARY:Moth Night: Nighttime in the Forest
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, July 28th | 8:30pmWest Branch Nature Preserve | 18232 Shearer Rd.River Run neighborhood \nCelebrate National Moth Week (July 22nd -30th) and embark on an adventure with Mecklenburg County’s local moth expert Lenny Lampel\, as we explore the world of moths and other fascinating creatures that emerge at night. Lenny will guide participants to different baited tarps that will attract various Lepidopteran species that we don’t typically observe at home\, due to their nocturnal habits. Moths are important pollinators that function at night\, so you won’t want to miss out on the chance to see these animals at work!Remember to bring a refillable water bottle and wear weather-appropriate clothing to protect against mosquito bites. You may also find a flashlight useful. We will send you a reminder email before the event and notify you via email if we need to reschedule due to rain (rain date: Saturday\, July 29th). Adult participation required if under 18.We will gather at 8:30pm at the West Branch Nature Preserve parking lot in River Run. Pre-registration is required\, and you don’t want to miss out on this enchanting opportunity to explore the nocturnal world of moths and other intriguing critters.
