BATCHELOR / ARNDT CONSERVATION EASEMENT

Davidson Lands Conservancy holds a conservation easement thanks to the generous donation of Dr. Tom and Kris Batchelor who owned the site located near the intersection of Shearer Road and East Rocky River Road in Davidson. The property is now owned by Tom and Sarah Arndt who are active and dedicated conservationists and stewards of this property.

The easement protects 7 acres of upland, sloping to close proximity of the Rocky River. Conservation values include healthy tree canopy, rich wildlife habitat, and water-quality buffer. There are several extraordinary American beech trees on the property.  Tom Arndt has recently eradicated the vast majority of autumn olive and privet from the property, an incredible accomplishment and wonderful benefit to the biodiversity of the forest. This protected woodland is proximate to common area of the Runnymede neighborhood and conserved area.

“The easement reflects our commitment to maintaining the rural character and conservation values of this area,” said Tom Batchelor.  “The tax benefits that come with this voluntary easement donation may make it possible for us to place easements on additional properties in the area.”
