OUR SECOND PILLAR OF CONSERVATION

PRESERVE & ENHANCE TREE CANOPY

Trees give us life by creating the very oxygen we breathe. They are vital to the quality of life in our community and are crucial to mitigating climate change. They clean the air of particulate matter, the main air quality threat to human health, and the beauty of our tree canopy is largely what makes Davidson the attractive community it is.

THE WHAT

TreesDavidson is a community engagement and education program that is aimed at people of all ages. DLC partners with the community to teach residents about our efforts to ensure the health, diversity, expansion, and protection of our urban forests. DLC also works closely with the Town of Davidson, Davidson College, and neighborhoods to educate residents on tree care, with goals to plant an average of 200 trees a year and to protect and expand our community’s street trees.

THE WHY

Our urban forest is essential to human health, as well as the health of our wildlife and ecosystems. The tree canopy is quickly thinning as our trees age out and land development increases.
