LEGACY DONATIONS

As a friend of Davidson Lands Conservancy, you believe in the importance of protecting our area’s open space, natural resources, and traditional rural landscape.  By making a legacy gift to DLC, you can make a profound difference in preserving this resource for present and future generations. Please consider including us in your trust, will, or other charitable planned giving options.

As you consider this opportunity, the Conservancy would be pleased to discuss your options with you.  Since every family’s finances are unique, you should check with your financial advisor or attorney to find the gift arrangement best suited to your situation. Davidson Lands Conservancy does not give tax or legal advice.  Please contact Beth Wytiaz, Executive Director at 704-892-1910 or [email protected] and let us know your plans, so we can assist you and properly thank you.

Your contribution will positively impact our community – by promoting outreach and education, ensuring our organization’s long-term success, managing conservation properties in perpetuity, and enabling DLC to protect and preserve more land through permanent conservation easements supporting the livability and character of our town and region.

DLC thanks you for generously considering a planned gift to support our ongoing mission.

Below we have included some options for you to consider:

Including Davidson Lands Conservancy in your will is a profound gift to the future.  Consider an amendment/codicil to your will or including us as you draft a new one.

You can choose to name DLC in your will through cash, securities, bonds, or real estate by specifying a designated dollar amount or percentage of your estate. Here’s the language you might want to include:

I hereby, give, devise and bequeath $DOLLARS to Davidson Lands Conservancy, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of North Carolina, with a principal business address of PO Box 1952, Davidson NC 28036, federal tax ID number of 56-2218814, for Davidson Lands Conservancy’s general use and purpose.

Directing funds from your retirement fund or IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) can help the Conservancy during your lifetime.  You can avoid both estate and income taxes when you support DLC.

You can guarantee a fixed income by transferring cash or appreciated securities in exchange for a charitable gift annuity.  This option offers an immediate and substantial income tax deduction and favorably taxed income for your life.

A tax-deductible gift of whole or universal life insurance is tax-deductible and can be made by naming Davidson Lands Conservancy as owner and beneficiary. You could purchase a new policy or donate a policy you currently own but no longer need.

Transferring assets to a trust that makes regular payments to Davidson Lands Conservancy for a specified time, after which the assets are transferred to you or your heirs with little or no estate and gift taxes.  This option can make good sense for anyone in the top estate and tax brackets.

Funding a charitable remainder trust with cash or appreciated property will provide you with income from the assets for your lifetime, qualify you for charitable deductions, and save on capital gains and estate taxes. Upon your death, the trust assets will be distributed outright to Davidson Lands Conservancy.

Stocks, bonds, mutual funds or other publicly traded securities can be gifted directly to DLC with reduced tax consequences.

A gift of cash made to DLC anytime can ensure its continued ability to protect the region’s most important identified resources.

DLC can be named to receive your property:  your house and/or land.  Some lands may be appropriate to protect for future generations.  Others may be better suited to be sold with the proceeds directed to DLC’s land protection efforts and operational expenses.
