CHARLES A. CANNON, III MEMORIAL LAND PRESERVE (CANNON PRESERVE)

In late November 2024, DLC partnered with Catawba Lands Conservancy (CLC) to protect 44 acres of pristine land near Mt Pleasant in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. The property was generously donated to DLC by Craig and Kathleen Cannon (Charles A. Cannon, III’s son and daughter-in-law).  DLC subsequently donated the land to Catawba Lands for active management, while DLC holds a permanent conservation easement on the land.  The partnership, which ensures long-term protection and active management of the land to enhance its conservation values, capitalizes on the management expertise of CLC and DLC’s stewardship expertise.

The Preserve includes a mature hardwood forest and is home to Little Meadow Creek, a tributary of the Rocky River. The partnership and the conservation easement ensure the preservation of vital ecosystems and wildlife habitat, and the protection of water quality, contributing to the overall health of the Rocky River watershed.
