Join DLC for our September WILDERNESS CALLING offering.
Come learn about Monarch butterfly fall migration by hiking through our very own Fisher Farm Park dedicated wildflower meadow and our very own Fisher Farm Park and Abersham Park dedicated milkweed fields.  Monarch butterflies have the longest insect migration in the world!  Each fall they fly in successive generations over 2000 miles along the east coast of the United States to Mexico to hibernate in the evergreen forests high in the mountains of central Mexico.  To complete this wonder of nature, Monarch mothers lay eggs only on milkweed because the baby larvae are such picky eaters.
Come to Fisher Farm Park to see the newly protected milkweed field and learn about the DLC-led Wildlife Enhancement Project’s protection of milkweed for Monarchs.  This event involves a short hike in Fisher Farm Park to learn information about the Monarch life cycle and migration. For more avid hikers, there will be an extension hike to see the milkweed areas in Abersham Park.  You can choose the exertion level that fits you by choosing the shorter walk and information or adding the longer walk to see more!  Recommended for adults, teens and families with older children able to walk one mile or three miles.
