DERIVATION:
Native to the Eastern United States

GROWTH CHARACTERISTICS:
Mature height ranges from 20 to 25 feet in the sun and up to 40 feet in the shade. The spread may be greater than the height with graceful branching.

GROWTH LOCATION:
Grows in partial shade as an understory tree in wooded areas in moist, sandy loamy, and slightly acidic soil. 

ATTRIBUTES, VALUE, UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS:
As an ornamental tree, the dogwood blooms in early spring, its petals are ‘bracts’ that are white or pink with the actual fruiting flower in the center. Fall color is dark red or purple and the fruit as berries turns red in the fall and provide food for migrating birds.
