Trumpet Vine Flowers

Hummingbirds love this native vine.

If you enjoy watching hummingbirds at your feeder in the summer it’s not too soon to put the feeders out.  There have been some reported sightings of Ruby Throated Hummingbirds in North Carolina already. It’s best to use nectar you prepare rather than using the kind with red dye.  To prepare your own Hummingbird Nectar heat one cup of water and add ¼ cup of sugar. Stir to dissolve and allow it to cool before adding to your feeder.

Even better, plant a native plant that attracts hummingbirds like Coral Honeysuckle.  Most any plant with red flowers will attract hummers.

Here are a couple of websites that have lots more information.
