Davidson Lands Conservancy (DLC) is proud to announce the permanent protection of 5.6 acres of beautiful, forested land in Iredell County, thanks to a generous donation of a conservation easement by Ed and Liz Harris. Conservation has long been a priority for the Harris family, and this donation adds to their legacy of service to the community. They are long time volunteers and supporters of land conservation in our region and of stewardship in our local parks. As for the importance of their donation, Ed and Liz shared that, “this land has given us so much over the years, it is a place of quiet beauty, providing a sense of connection to the land. Protecting it for future generations felt like the best next step. ”The protected land is in Troutman near Lake Norman and directly adjacent to Lake Norman State Park. Ed and Liz have long recognized the value of their land for critical wildlife habitat, water quality protection, and natural scenery in a rapidly developing corridor of the county. As development pressure continues, their land will forever remain a natural gem for wildlife and people. The forest holds a wide variety of oak, hickory, and pine trees with an open understory spotted by native hollies. As we work to improve the quality of habitat in our region, we are excited to be protecting a property that already boasts high native biodiversity and lacks many of the invasive shrubs and vines that so often dominate our forests. Beth Wytiaz, Executive Director of DLC stated, “with the donation of the Harris Family. Conservation Easement, DLC has taken another step forward in the permanent protection of natural land before it disappears.”
